DC’s tri-annual Grubstake Breakfast took place this morning, with four local companies presenting. While three of those were non-web based companies (biotech, cell phones), one company, mpowerplayer, looked interesting.
Mpowerplayer “helps mobile gaming publishers more effectively market and sell their games. Inefficiencies in existing mobile merchandising and monetization are widely acknowledged as a high-profile problem by major industry players and analysts. Mpowerplayer brings the “iTunes” approach to mobile game merchandising, and customers include Sprint-Nextel and Electronic Arts.” The companies web site (which as an aside, appears to be built on Wordpress), features several well-known mobile game titles, such Guitar Hero, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and more. All these are free to try out online, so that consumers can become comfortable with mobile games before they buy.
According to their site, mpowerplayer is located in Northern Virginia, and is cash-flow positive.
